Dear Ruth:

Understanding that your department doesn't create agenda items, I would still call you attention to an incorrect statement in todays (9/12/06) city council agenda, i.e. "Legislative Package."

I have attached what I believe is an erroneous statement pertaining to the real estate tax rate reduction.

As you can read below, it states that, "The City reduced the real estate tax rate by $1.22 to $.99 since 2005, thereby reducing the yield of the real estate tax by $103 million."

If the statement were correct, the tax rate in 2005 would have been $2.21.  The statement should have read, "The City reduced the real estate tax rate by $.23 to $.99 since 2005."

On the issue of the "lost" revenue amount of $103 million, could you please have someone explain the formula used over the last two years to arrive at that amount, i.e., one cent equals $X millions in 2005/5 and 2006/7.

Thank you for your time and attention,

With warmest regards,

Robert
